2008-2009 school year

Paid RI Department of Health "PASS" Position Available

Portsmouth family is seeking a paid mentor for an articulate and outgoing 19-year old male Johnson & Wales freshman diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. The student will be enrolled in JWU’s School of Technology as a Website Development major and will be living on campus. The goals of the position are: (i) to assist the student with organizational skills and to monitor those skills to ensure that the student attends class and tracks and timely completes homework assignments; and (ii) to assist the student with the development of social skills and safety awareness necessary to live independently at college.  A student enrolled in the School of Technology with some familiarity with Asperger’s would be preferred but not required.  The family views this as a mentor relationship primarily to assist the student in the organizational and social transition to college.

The position is available at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year for approximately 15 hours per week and the family would ask for a commitment through the entire school year.  Some basic training will be required.

Please contact Brian or Mikki at 401.683.6529 for additional information.
